By Fire Chief Ira Walker, Jr.
January 23, 2010

On Saturday, January 23rd Fire Box 54-01 was alerted for a residential structure fire with rescue at 20 Church St. in Stewartstown Borough. Chief 54-2 (Farrell, Jr) went responding as the Duty Officer and was advised of one person still inside the burning residence. Ass't Chief Farrell arrived on scene and confirmed a "working" fire with rescue. Ass't Chief Farrell along with FF Paul Storke were able to assist the victim out of the 1st floor bedroom window. E54-2 and TK54 arrived and crews advanced (1) 2" attack line to Division 2/Side A to "knock" the fire that had extended from Division 1. Driver/FF Mike Forstoffer, Sr from TK54 was able to rescue (2) dogs from Division 1 and perform horizontal ventilation. Additional crews arrived and assisted with vertical ventilation and extinguishing remaining "hot spots". Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the family. A fire marshal from PSP arrived on scene and investigated the cause and is listed as "accidental" at this time with a damage estimated at $25,000. A job well done by all departments involved!
