On Monday, July 9th at 1:47AM Stations 54 and 61 were alerted for a "pile of logs" on fire located in the area of 15979 Sawmill Road in Hopewell Twp. Chief 54 (Walker) responded and was advised that the caller reports "logs on fire spreading towards a structure". BR54-1 (Sgt Geroux) and E54-2 (Ass't Chief Russell) responded. Chief 54 was approximately 1.5 miles out reporting a "large glow in the sky". Chief 54 arrived and found a "working" structure fire and requested a full first alarm assignment with (3) additional tankers added to the box. Units from Station 54 arrived and were assigned Side B/C to initiate attack using (1) blitz fire and (2) 2" attack lines, T54-1 arrived shortly thereafter and supplied E54-2. E61 (Chief Myers) and TK54 (FF Forstoffer) arrived and were assigned Side A/D to initiate attack. Balto Co T45 arrived and was assigned as "nurse" tanker for E61/TK54. E54-3 and E54-4 were assigned water supply and a draft was established on Bowman School Road about 1 mile away. Met Ed was requested "priority" to the scene due to "high voltage" wires and a transformer located adjacent to the fire. Additional crews and tankers arrived and the fire was declared under control at approximately 2:55AM. Chief 54 requested the PA State Police Fire Marshal to the scene to investigate. There was one "minor" injury to a firefighter at the draft site. At this time the fire is "undetermined and under investigation".
I would like to THANK all of the crews who responded and assisted with this call. GOOD JOB!
